Meet The Founder – Joanne Jørgensen

With over 30 years in the creative industries, I've had the privilege of creating for some of the world's most recognisable brands, witnessing bold innovations, messy failures and everything in between.
My love for creativity started early. I was fascinated with materiality, colour and texture, which led me
to studying textile design at Glasgow School of Art. Upon graduating, I accepted a role as a knit designer in New York City. As an eager young designer, it didn’t take long for me to uncover the nuanced imperfections of the fashion industry.
Why were we doing
things in ways that didn’t
make sense for the
planet or the customer?
Frustrated yet inspired, I returned to the UK to embrace freelance opportunities. I immersed myself in a variety of projects, gaining valuable insights into British consumers and fast fashion behaviour. I co-founded a sustainable startup dedicated to crafting beautifully-made,
low-carbon knitwear… only to discover the challenges of striving for integrity in a system that often doesn’t support it.
I also witnessed first-hand the harsh realities of how workplaces can treat individuals aspiring to start a family. This experience profoundly shaped my leadership approach, teaching me what not to do when guiding a team. Ultimately I made the difficult decision to walk away, all while supporting two dependents, managing a mortgage and facing an uncertain future.
In 2015 I received an unexpected call from Nike. Within a few months, I stepped into the role of Director at their Footwear Materials Design studio in London: a dream role that perfectly balanced creativity with leadership. Over my 9 years in this role, I dedicated myself to cultivating a team-first culture where trust and collaboration were absolute essentials. Together, we experimented and played, navigated failure, and embraced innovation that led to record-breaking shoes and groundbreaking zero-waste solutions.
I experienced coaching for the first time during my years at Nike, and found it transformative. I learned that stepping out of your comfort zone
into a learning zone is essential for creativity and innovation. This profound revelation inspired the mission of TeamGLUE: to help teams and leaders cultivate cultures rooted in humanity.
The best ideas emerge in environments where trust and kindness flourish, where individuals feel safe to take risks, and where joy is part of the process.
Work with TEAM GLUE
While pursuing a BA in Knitted Textile Design at the Glasgow School of Art, I innovatively designed knitted footwear… before it became a trend. This early exploration laid the foundation for my passion for pushing creative boundaries.
I relocated to New York as a Knitwear Designer. My journey began at a creative studio creating concepts for high fashion, leading to impactful roles at global powerhouses like PVH and VF Corporation.
Back in the UK, I co-founded a sustainable slow fashion startup while working for M&S and contributing to the launch of Very. Our designs were stocked by prestigious retailers including Net-a-Porter, Anthropologie and Hankyu in Japan.
I was headhunted by Nike to lead the Footwear Materials Design Studio, where I focused on developing innovative Flyknit technology for performance footwear.
During my tenure, we exceeded expectations by creating groundbreaking footwear that not only set sales records, but also transformed the industry. Our innovations, such as Alpha Fly & Epic React, garnered multiple awards and patents, solidifying our impact on the world of footwear.
Driven by my passion for people, teams and workplace culture, I founded TeamGLUE to foster a human and earth-centered approach to innovation.
